Year 5

Here are a few of the exciting things that Year 5 have been doing this year...

Jodrell Bank

The children enjoyed a wonderful day at Jodrell Bank to help bring their topic 'space' to life. They spent the day touring the Solar System exhibit, discovering the constellations in the Space Dome and exploring how telescopes have changed the view of our Universe.

PE - Agility

The Year 5's have been developing their agility in the PE lessons, where they have been working on their speed, strength, balance and coordination.

Derby Faith Trip

Year 5 & 6 had the opportunity to visit some of Derby’s fantastic places of worship through an immersive experience.  Derby are lucky to have a wide range of religions and beliefs in the local community and it was great for the children to experience these places of worship first hand. 

Maths in Year 5

The children have loved learning about Place Value in Year 5. They have enjoyed using concrete apparatus and pictorial representations to show their learning.

Mini Police

Year 5 are really lucky to have been chosen to take part in Mini Police. In the first few weeks, we have focussed on the phonetic alphabet, anti-social behaviour and even had a visit from a police car.

Archery

As the book we have been reading this term in our Literacy lessons has been Robin Hood, we decided to test out our bow and arrow skills and see how good our aim was!

Mini Police Christmas singing

We visited Queens Court this festive period to sing Christmas Carols to the elderly residents. The children really enjoyed themselves and so did the residents who were filled with Christmas cheer!

Northern Ballet Company

The children had a special dance session today with the Northern Ballet Company. They engaged well with the session and seemed to really enjoy themselves
