Church of England Statement for Entitlement

Please click here to view the Church of England Statement for Entitlement for Church Schools (Feb 2019).
As a Church of England Controlled school we are supported by the above document which encourages us to teach RE with the same academic rigour, resources and planning as other subjects. At Fairfield Endowed CofE Junior School we do this by ensuring that fully qualified class teachers teach RE weekly (wherever possible) to provide all children with good quality teaching. Where it is not possible to teach RE lessons in 1hr weekly slots it is taught as whole or half day blocks. We teach about different religions, faiths and cultures, both historically and making links to modern life both in modern Britain and globally. To support this teaching we use Understanding Christianity resources alongside the Derbyshire Agreed Syllabus.

SPIRITUALITY

Here at Fairfield Endowed Junior School we value the Spiritual, Moral, social and cultural (SMSC) aspects of our children's education and our community as a whole and as individuals as referenced by OFSTED (May 2019) who stated that "Pupils’ spiritual, moral social and cultural development is a strength of the school. "  Here at FEJS we recognise spirituality as being a difficult concept to understand and one that is often mistakenly defined. We recognise it as 'opportunities for reflection and awe at the world and around us, engaging both hearts and minds, leading to a deeper sense of self and our position within the world. This can be faith based but is also open to non believers or those as yet undecided.'

Remembrance Sunday
On remembrance Sunday some of our pupils went to St Peters to lay a wreath on behalf of the staff, pupils, governors & parents of Fairfield Junior school.

Visit from REV. CARL

We were pleased to welcome back into school our Governor and local vicar, Reverend Carl Edwards, who came into school to talk with the children about his role at St. Peter's Church, Fairfield and in our school.  It is always great fun to have Rev. Carl in school and he entertained the children with his guitar playing and showed the children the different robes he wears through the Liturgical year and Ordinary time.  We all look forward to seeing Rev. Carl in the near future for his Collective Worships and tea with the Vicar.

Faith and Heritage Week

During Faith and Heritage week, children had the opportunity to learn about different families and their religions.  The 'Our Heritage' exhibition explores issues of faith, culture and the legacy of multicultural Britain from the perspective of five Derbyshire families, from 5 different faiths (Christian, Sikh, Muslim, Hindu, Jewish).  It provides children with a fantastic interactive resource designed to enrich their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.  Children enjoyed finding out about the different faiths and religions and produced some super work to support this.
