Our Children are fantastic! See what they do!
Grace in Year 5's Great Grandad was a soldier in the First World War. She researched this side of her family and excitedly brought the results along with some personal memorabilia into school. Grace's family were happy to share this unique part of their family history. Grace made notes which are transcribed below the photographs.
Corporal William Johnston Robertson
Royal Liverpool Regiment
He joined Kitchener's army in the 'Pals' regiment when he was only 15 having lied about his age.
He served in Gallipoli and saw action on the Western front. He was injured two days before the Battle of the Somme when all of his friends were killed. He was given a medical discharge aged 18 having achieved the rank of Corporal.
Now 100 years later Grace's brother is in the same regiment!
